Bas Dobbelaer
In Motion
Mp3s & jpegsDeep, intimate and highly melancholic. That might be an adequate description of In Motion, Bas Dobbelaer's new EP. We had to wait three years for a follow-up to Binding Elements, but our patience is rewarded. In Motion marks a transition of sorts for the Amsterdam-based producer, as these are the last recordings made in his former studio at the ACTA cultural hub. This may explain the melancholic undertone of the four tracks, which serve as a farewell to the iconic concrete bunker in Amsterdam-Zuid. Dobbelaer has stripped away all unnecessary elements on this EP - after all, when moving house, it's best to travel light.?Tracks such as 'Apollo', 'Double Tap' and 'Resistance' therefore feature just a few elements, with robust kick drums and sub sonic, reverberating bass lines taking up most of the spectrum. Anyone into Monolake, Nae:tek or Intrusion will utterly enjoy this bass-heavy box of goodies.
