Part industrial mantra, part musique concr?te, this immersive and captivating debut continues Infrastructure's re-launch, bringing genuine new talent to the table. The classically trained violinist, who until recently had little background or experience in electronic music, has put together a deeply ritualistic study in textural, layered compositions inspired by middle-eastern traditions and rhythms. With a nod to the influential work of artists like Muslimgauze, Irvine has constructed a complex world of electro-acoustic elements, carefully processed and arranged field recordings, acoustic percussion and arabic sound-bytes. Underpinning each tense, hypnotic arrangement are subtle sub-sonic elements that have their roots in dub or dub techno, yet the overall impressive sound aesthetic is far removed from both.
