In celebration of Record Store Day, Medical Records presents a reissue of the fourth album by Locust. Originally released in 1997 on Apollo/R&S Records, Morning Light was originally a CD-only release. Locust is the brainchild of London's Mark Van Hoen who has a vast back catalog of stellar releases under his own name, Locust, and Autocreation as well as collaborations with Scala, Seefeel, and Black Hearted Brother. Whereas the early Locust records (Natural Composite and Weathered Well) invoke a darker ambient feel and the album prior (Truth Is Born Of Arguments) is a marvel of IDM fusion and glitch/gated samples, Morning Light was a departure into new territory for Locust. Focusing on more pop structure and vocal orientation, the album is really like no other with its expansive production and use of electronics. The opener Your Selfish Ways blasts into a deep tremolo effect with multiple treated samples and glitch perfectly intertwining with the gorgeous female vocals. No One In The World is a dreamy journey with rich a rich bass line and accented by horns and symphonic movements. The album also features a collaboration with Robert Fripp of King Crimson on the track I Am The Murderer which is an alternate take of the original track unique to this release. On The Horizon features Neil Halstead from Slowdive who also worked with Mark on the Black Hearted Brother LP. The album is spread over 2 LPs and contains bonus tracks as well. Features a gatefold jacket with extensive interview and liner notes by Dave Segal. This is a crucial release for fans of Locust and Mark Van Hoen and is finally available on LP for the first time. Presented on high-quality 160gram classic vinyl featuring original reproduction front cover artwork. Record Store Day retail exclusive.
