Rick Wade
Detroit Fury ep
Legend is a word that is overused and often misused but it is truly the only one to describe the latest most-welcome addition to the Hizou Music family, the one and only Rick Wade. The deep house pioneer from small-town Michigan – less than an hour from Chicago’s South Side – in truth needs little introduction thanks to celebrated releases on labels such as Trackmode, Moods & Grooves and, of course, his own much-lauded Harmonie Park imprint. So we are especially proud that the veteran DJ and producer debuts on Hizou with a stunning four-track release that pays tribute to the Motor City where he first made his name as a DJ. The Detroit Fury EP is classic Rick Wade: deep, driving, emotional and full of soul. Although the clue may be in the title, opening track Disco Jazz is much more than that; it is warm, melodic house at its finest. Gambit is simply so effortlessly smooth, a slow-burning cut that heats up nicely. Detroit Time is strictly for the floor, a pacey and punchy number made to make you move, while the delightful Heavy is an eminently groovy finish to a fine EP.
