John Gibbs with The Jam Band / Asphalt Jungle
J'Ouvert / Freakin Time
Superb double A-sided 12” from TEC Records, reissuing two of the rarest and most sought-after tracks ever released on the tiny US disco label. First up is super-funky Cosmic groover ‘J’Ouvert’, from John Gibbs with The Jam Band, As you’d expect from the title, this track has more than a nod to Carnival a with tropical feel and traditional steel drums but in a weird spaced-out disco arrangement that made this a favourite at David Mancuso’s infamous Loft as well as on the afro-funky scene. On the flip, we have the mighty ‘Freakin’ Time’ from MFSB and Salsoul Orchestra rhythm maestro Keith Benson. Originally split into Parts 1 and 2 and released on 2 sides of a 7” and 12”, here the two tracks are seamlessly edited together for maximum long-playing dancefloor impact. With heavy hypnotic drums, sexy vocals, dirty grooving bass, this is a real must-have. Great chance to get your hands on two disco funk masterpieces!
